THE CARTOONThe cartoon by Chappatte from the International New York Times shows a checkpoint at the entrance to Sochi, where the Winter Olympics are being held. The road is blocked with a barrier and barbed wire. A machine-gun-toting Russian soldier in a fur hat is checking the papers of the athlete who is carrying the Olympic torch. The joke is that security is so tight that even the torch bearer is subjected to an identity check.
