Flawless Makeup Tips and Tricks from Makeup Artists by Tanya ,  Jan 25, 2013

Bigger, Sexier Eyes

First, reach for liner. Skip black — like an LBD, it narrows your shape — and use a colored one to define your top lash line, says celebrity makeup artist Carmindy. (Blues and greens not your thing? Reach for slate, which looks awesome on everyone.) Now, swipe a shimmery white shadow onto your inner corners in a sideways V shape to catch light, which widens eyes. Finally, make your eyelash curler your BFF. Crimping the top lash line angles hairs so tips are closer to your brows, expanding the entire eye area. Immediately lock in the curve with two coats of lengthening mascara.

Plush, Pillowy Lips

Grab a colorless lip balm with shimmer, and apply it to the skin just above your cupid's bow — the area below your nose and between the peaks of your top lip. Adding light to that area creates the illusion of larger lips, explains Carmindy. Then apply a moisturizing lipstick. Hydrating ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, bind pout-plumping water to your mouth. Make sure it has a high-shine finish; matte versions don't reflect light. Finish with a swipe of the shimmery balm on the center of your bottom lip.

Perfect-Looking Skin

Using a concealer brush, apply cover-up to any pimples, making short, quick motions, like you're spackling. Why a brush? The tapered bristles can get into the crevices of a blemish better than your fingers can, says Mally Roncal, celeb makeup artist in NYC. Be sure your concealer is made with zit-zapping salicylic acid; two separate formulas (zit cream and cover-up) layered won't stick to skin. Set everything in place with a skin-tone matching powder.

Killer Cheekbones

To make round cheeks look more chiseled, you'll need a highlighting powder and a bronzer that's two shades darker than your skin tone. (Get both in a multicolor palette, like the one at left.) Make a fish face, and dust the bronzer on the hollows of your cheeks. Smile, then brush the highlighter from the apples of your cheeks to your temples. "The contrasting tones define and shape cheekbones," says Los Angeles makeup artist Joanna Schlip.

Uniform Brows

If you've tried filling in a brow scar without much luck, check this out. "The skin on a scar is smoother and has fewer pores, so pencils and fine powders just don't adhere," says Carmindy. Tinted waxes or creams are a better-sticking option. Choose one in a shade that matches your brows, and make short, light strokes in the direction of hair growth. Finish by blending color through the entire brow (not just the bald spot) for an even, believable shape.

A Tinier Forehead

Bangs will instantly fill the gap between your brows and hairline. But if you'd rather not make the cut, reach for a matte bronzer (shimmer will spotlight the area's size) and a big powder brush. "Bronzer creates a shadow, helping a too-large area appear smaller," says Schlip. Swirl bristles into the bronzer, and tap off any excess to keep the shade light and natural. Sweep the brush along your hairline from temple to temple several times then in circles to blend.

A Slimmer Nose

Shrink a larger or wider nose with this two-pronged attack: Apply your usual foundation to your nose, then swipe a streak of highlighter down the center of its bridge and back up in a straight line. "The paler color sandwiched between the foundation-coated skin will make the sides of your nose appear darker and slimmer in seconds," says Carmindy. Set with translucent powder, which won't darken the illusion.

How to Do Exotic Makeup

Have you ever wanted to look strikingly beautiful without looking bland or cookie-cutter? Do you yearn to have exotic appeal like Gisele Bündchen or Adriana Lima? Although, you can't change your features to look "exotic", you can use makeup to give yourself a unique and ethnic look.

  1. 1
For almond shaped eyes, you can use inner rim brightener on your waterline to make your eyes brighter and appear larger. Next, curl your eyelashes and apply a good quality mascara. Make your eyelashes very dramatic. Then, you should use kohl or kajal to line your eyes. Lastly, use metallic eyeshadow like gold or copper for your eyelids.
  2. 2
Have large pouty lips. You can buy lip injections at makeup stores such as Sephora or you can buy lip glosses that promote collagen production. For lip glosses, choose neutral colors like soft pinks. These look best with olive skin tones.
  3. 3
Have some color other than pale. Having a tan or olive skin tone is normally associated with exotic looks. If you don't have a naturally tan complexion, you can use bronzer to get a sun-kissed glow. Tanning is also an option. Luminizer can be used to highlight your cheekbones, nose, and brow bone. In addition, make sure to cover up any acne, under eye circles, redness, or scars.
  4. 4
Possess Dark, long, glossy hair. Wash in cold in water every other day, using quality conditioner and shampoo to get natural shine. Curly hair and Afros are also very exotic. In addition, golden highlights in brown hair looks very beautiful with tan skin. To get this you can apply lemon juice to your hair, go out in the sun for a few hours, and wash the juice out to get gorgeous highlights! Although it can be very fun to experiment with new hairstyles, don't forget to celebrate your natural hair!

  • Don't wear all of this makeup at once. A good trick is to choose one feature you want to highlight, for example your eyes, and use dramatic makeup on that one feature, keeping the rest of your face natural and simple.
  • A good way to compliment your exotic looks is to wear boho style maxi skirts and dresses, hoop earrings, bangles, and other tribal type jewelry
  • Remember that your ethnicity and culture is beautiful!
  • A great body with gorgeous curves goes great with exotic looks! Exercise to make sure you stay beautiful all over!
  • Drink plenty of water to get glowing skin. No amount of makeup can replicate this.
  • Wash your face with quality cleanser because acne and dry skin is not considered attractive or exotic.
  • Give yourself a homemade facial or mask on hair and face. Exotic beauties always have glowing skin and healthy hair.
  • Get your eyebrows threaded. This hurts a little but strong clean eyebrows frame the face nicely.

  • Don't go overboard. Retain your sense of personal style.
  • Too much makeup will make you look unappealing instead of gorgeous.
  • Wash off all of the makeup before going to bed to avoid breaking out.
  • Invest in good quality makeup to achieve the best results
