Interesni Kazki by alexey ,  Aug 4, 2014

Once upon a time… a duo of Ukrainian artists took the name of Interesni Kazki, which literally means ‘interesting fairy tales’, and still no doubt AEC and Waone know how to stick to this creative concept.

Even at the first look at their walls, the viewer gets caught-up in an oneiric marriage of weird characters and dreamlike creatures that seem to be at ease in surreal landscapes. Infact Interesni Kazki paints its fabulous world of semi-conscious reality with an obsessive accuracy in the details, in the colour shades and mostly in the hidden meanings. The recurring themes of this duo could be spirituality, God, love, humanity and everything in between; Interesni Kazki’s mural art reflects at best its inspiring inspiration.

Interesni Kazki is...

Aleksei Bordusov and Vladimir Manzhos, a duo from the Ukraine who also go by their respective aliases AEC and WAONE. They were the precursors of the graffiti movement in the East European countries and have painted public walls in the Ukraine and Russia for the past ten years. In the last three years, they have also painted a lot around Europe in their distinctive narrative and symbolist style. Aleksei describes a recent mural they did in Ibiza, Spain: "I see the storyline as: Love, which is symbolized by the girl with the multicolored cube, stops the game or struggle between good and evil, which is symbolized by black and white hands."

Aleksei and Vladimir are inspired by themes such as science, religion, cosmology and social subjects, though they usually make work with free meanings that everyone can interpret on their own. "Every single piece is sort of a rebus and contains a secret to decipher," is noted in the text for their last exhibition in Milan. The artists are not yet sure exactly what they will paint Outside the Walls but we can be sure that their mural, scheduled for completion by the end of November 2011, will be full of "interesting stories" or "interesting colors"—that is the meaning of their joint name Interesni Kazki. The finished mural will be featured in the next edition of this book.

Interesni Kazki (IK) is an Ukrainian art-duo formed of muralists Aec and WaOne, who began working together in 1999. Since then, these guys have created many murals in countries all over the world.

Interview of Interesni KazkiFC: Where are you from Waone and AEC? Tell us about your beginnings and your discovery of graffiti.Waone : We are from Kiev. We’ve started like everyone else with traditional writing, however in 1999 we also began with interior artworks. At that time we were out of money and couldn’t afford even our own paint. So we had to practice commercial orders. Every such job brought us a little paint.  After a short time we gathered a plenty of cans and did our first production in 2001. We would rather make time-taking projects in a place no one could disturb us, than a quick bombing in public places.
FC: Tell us about the Street art scene from your town and your country.Waone : There is no Street art scene in our country. Ukrainian Street art scene is represented by less than 5 people. Only we and Kislow from Sevastopol are active artists at the time. Even the graffiti scene is low developed.
